Six Fundraising Tips and Tricks

  1.        Get the fundraising party started by self-donating

There’s nothing wrong with getting the ball rolling by donating a few dollars to your own campaign. Not only does it really show your commitment to the cause, but it encourages other people to throw their weight behind your campaign, too.

  1.       Don’t be shy

You know the old expression ‘Ask not, want not’? Well, it goes the same for your fundraising campaign. Be sure to tell your best friend, parents, and work colleagues that you’ll be trotting on Thanksgiving morning and that their support would be absolutely delightful. If you can ask in-person, that’s perfect, but asking over email works well, too (check out the resources section below for help with this).

  1.       Tap into the power of social media

Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat (and all the rest of ‘em) are great ways to spread your fundraising message far and wide. You never know; your Cousin Sarah’s work might care about the cause as much as you do and send a few dollars your way!

  1.       Keep people in the loop

You’re doing something really cool for your local community! Don’t forget to inspire and excite those people around you by sharing your fundraising progress in person or over social media.

  1.       Perspective is key

When asking for support, express to your potential donors that no amount is considered too big or small. If they are worried they can’t afford it, remind them that by simply skipping this week’s $5 pumpkin spice latte and donating, they could make a BIG difference to the health and happiness of someone in need.

  1.       Say thank you

Saying thank you is important and makes your supporters feel happy and appreciated. So whether you do it in person, over the phone or on social media, when people donate to your campaign, tell them how wonderful they are.
