What is a virtual race?

1) Your community needs you

There are many amazing aspects of the Y Turkey Trot Charity 5k, but the one that keeps people coming back every year is how much it helps support our community. Proceeds fund Y Open Doors Financial Aid, which helps families experiencing poverty throughout central Maryland afford Y programs which keep them and their children safe, active, learning, and participating in healthy community life. The need has never been greater.

2) It’s good for your health  and an excellent way to model the something very positive for your children

As we all know, exercise is a key part of a healthy lifestyle. Whether you run, jog, or walk this year’s 5K, you’ll be doing something great for your body! You’ll also be demonstrating during the week of Thanksgiving, that selflessness and kindness matter.

3) It’s fun

Who said exercising had to be boring? The Y Turkey Trot Charity 5K is a blast because it is so much more than just a race It’s a Maryland family tradition. Make it as fun as you want! Dress up in fun costumes, share stories and race times with your friends, and connect with your community — all while knowing you are making a difference.

4) It’s easier than ever to participate

One of the best things about a virtual 5K is that anyone can run, walk or stroll it from anywhere. Missed out on the Turkey Trot last year because you were traveling or too busy cooking? This year you can participate no matter where your Thanksgiving plans take you! Just register and then trot your way to any finish line you choose during the week of Thanksgiving (Nov. 22-29). It’s as easy as (pumpkin) pie!
